Barbara JoAnn Bowen

JoAnn Bowen, age 78 of Frankford, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green, with Bro. Stan Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. JoAnn was born March 19, 1941 in St. Charles, MO, the daughter of Ray Donive William and Eunice Gertrude Suddarth Bufford. She married LeRoy Bowen at Rev. Paul Grimes home in Elsberry on December 24, 1960. To this union seven children were born. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Bowen of Frankford; children Dana Karl (Joyce) Foiles of New London, Duane Eddie Bowen of Center, Clif A.L. (Beth) Bowen of Bowling Green, Aaron Keith (Tammy Waite) Bowen of Eolia, Sammy Dean (Missy) Bowen of Hannibal, Daniel Lynn (Diane) Bowen of Hannibal, Gina Kaye (Pete) English of Albuquerque, NM Bobby Scott Bowen of Frankford and Michael Lynn (Courtney) Bowen of Vandalia; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brothers James Clifton Bufford, Homer A. Riffle Jr., and Samual Dale Riffle; sisters Doris Linda Jane Smith, Bonita Faye Wallace and Marilyn Kaye Crenshaw; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Eunice Gertrude Riffle; brother Raymond Laverne; and step-father Homer Arnold Riffle Sr. JoAnn was baptized November 3, 1957 at the Southern Baptist Church in Olney, MO, she later moved her membership to Peno Baptist Church outside of Bowling Green and most recently had been attending the Cowboy Church in Bowling Green since 2007. JoAnn worked for several years in the local garment factories, starting with Elders in 1958 and ended her career with Cerf Bros in 2003. She later worked for Dollar General and the with the Bowling Green Pharmacy from 2008 until her retirement June 2, 2017. In her early years, JoAnn worked for Head Start until her children graduated. She was a 4-H leader for Pleasant Workers for 10 years, belonged to the International Ladies Garment Workers Union Local #388 and belonged to the Humane Society and National Wildlife Federation. JoAnn raised her children on the Hobby Farm in rural Frankford, along with raising lots of different animals. She loved photography and genealogy, scrapbooking and gospel music. She enjoyed cooking holiday dinners and all of her family raved about her fried chicken. Serving as pallbearers will be Dana Karl Foiles, Duane Eddie Bowen, Cliff A.L. Bowen, Aaron Keith Bowen, Sammy Dean Bowen, Daniel Lynn Bowen and Gina Kaye English. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Foiles, B.J. Bowen, Laura Jennings, Rebecca Jennings, Michelle Bowen, Tracia Bowen, Donovan Bowen, Zachary Bowen, Michael Bowen, Yasmine Bowen and Bobby Bowen. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Missouri.
