Bufford, 90, of Louisville, went home to the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the home of her beloved daughter, Phyllis. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Louisville Christian Church with nephew, David Thompson, officiating. Linda Logan served as pianist, and the soloist was great-niece, Shiloh (Thompson) Werkmeister. Burial was in the Louisville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Carmen was born July 9, 1921 in Louisville, the only child of John “Claude” and Ina (Cannon) Lindsay. On August 27, 1950, she married Thomas “Wayne” Bufford at the Louisville Christian Church. Wayne preceded her in death on February 15, 1983. Carmen was born and lived her whole life on her family farm in Louisville. After high school, she taught a term at Henton School. She then traveled to St. Louis to attend cosmetology school and worked as a beautician for about ten years, making many lifelong friends, including the Lester family. She married Wayne and to this union two daughters were born, Phyllis Lee and Sharon Kay. She served as a 4-H leader for many years and held various positions in the Extension club. She had a passion for gardening, was a very skilled seamstress, and was fully immersed in creating a rich life for her family on the farm. Many years were spent helping to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Later in life, she became an avid crocheter, with the goal of completing an afghan for each. A lifelong member of the Louisville Christian Church and also attending weekly church services at Indian Creek Baptist Church with her family, she was strong in her faith. She was actively involved in both churches, playing the piano and helping with vacation bible school. She is survived by two daughters: Phyllis Twellman and husband, Ron, of Eolia and Sharon Elliott of Troy, MO; six grandchildren: Jeff Sullivan and wife, Shelly, of Moscow Mills, Lisa Stanek and husband, Mark, of Overland Park, KS, Brian Twellman and wife, Tara, of Eolia, Nikki Stapleton and husband, Noel, of Pearl River, NY, Michelle Tracy and husband, Gary, of Eolia, and Elise Elliott of Troy, MO; eleven great-grandchildren: Ryne, Brendan, and Alex Stanek, Rachel, Anna, and Natalie Sullivan, Madison and Landon Tracy, Avery Twellman, and Dylan and Keane Stapleton; and many nieces and nephews. Carmen will always be remembered for her strong faith in God, her personal strength, and her nurturing spirit. Her life of devotion to caring for others was an inspiration to all. She was happiest when surrounded by her loving family and friends, of which she had many. Serving as pallbearers were nephews Donald and Lee Thompson, cousins Dale and Edgar Lindsay, and friends of the family Marty Capstick and Kevin Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the Louisville Christian Church.
