Eugene Bernard Capstick

Eugene (Gene) Bernard Capstick was born on November 7, 1942, in the city of St. Louis, the son of Elmer Baptiste and Bernadine Marie Abbeg Capstick. He passed from this life on December 23, 2023, at his residence in Bowling Green, Missouri (Cyrene) at the age of 81. Funeral services for Eugene will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bowling Green, with Brother Joe Miller and Brother Stan Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation will be Thursday, December 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Gene served in the United States Navy; two years active and four years inactive, on the USS Enterprise, which was the first nuclear aircraft carrier. He was a member of the Bowling Green Chapter of the VFW. Gene worked for General Motors for 35 years at the Corvette and truck plants in St. Louis, and the assembly center in Wentzville. After retirement he worked 17 years at Super 8 Motel in Bowling Green. Gene married LaRae S. Claxton on May 27, 1967. They made their home in St. Charles, Missouri for 15 years before moving to Pike County in 1980. Gene is survived by his wife, LaRae; one daughter, Christine Genette Rutherford and husband Joseph Rutherford; and sons, Mark Eugene Capstick and his wife, Amy Elizabeth Capstick, and Brian Raymond Capstick and his wife, Sarah Marie Capstick. Also surviving are grandchildren: Courtney LaRae Rutherford, MaKenzie Ann Rutherford, Ashley Nicole Capstick, Kelsey Lynn Capstick, Olivia Danielle Capstick, Matthew Mark Capstick, Austin Brian Capstick, Hunter Aiden Capstick, Madelyn Sky Capstick, and Lance Glascock, who is currently serving in South Korea; and great-grandchildren: Kooper Wayne Cornelius, Kylie Louise Cornelius, Easton James Ostermann, Kynlee Joe Myers, and Keagan James Myers. One brother, John Michael Capstick of Illinois survives. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Elmer Baptiste Capstick and Bernadine Marie Abbeg Capstick, and a brother, Elmer B. "Al" Capstick, Jr. Pallbearers will be Brian Capstick, Mark Capstick, Joe Heenan, Joe Rutherford, Wayne McNail, Scott Bair, and Matthew Capstick. Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Glascock, Austin Capstick, Hunter Capstick, Kooper Cornelius, Marshall Suddarth, Terry Grote, John Capstick, and Tony Busalachi. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Community Loving Care Hospice.
