Fred Davis

Fred Davis, age 70 of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Vandalia with Minister Jamie Franke officiating. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the church. Fred was born April 17, 1947 in Perry, MO, the son of Robert Edward and Alva Norteen Lieurance Davis. He married Betty Jane Klise on July 30, 1967 at the United Methodist Church in Center. She survives. Other survivors include sons Michael Edward Davis (Angie) of New London and Matthew Lewis Davis of Des Moines, IA; daughter Michelle Ledawn Kurz (Tim) of Vandalia; grandchildren Jonathan, Brian, Mackenzie and Brandon Kurz, Austin, Sophia, Irelynn and Logan Davis; uncle and aunt Harold (Pat) Lieurance of Columbia; cousins Susan Edwards (Ron) of Lee Summit and Terri (David) Hevel of Hannibal. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Kimberly Dawn Kurz; Father and Mother-in-law Lewis E and Geneva Klise; brother-in-law Lewis E. Klise Jr.; nephew Lewis E. Klise III. Fred worked for 36 years at the North American Refractories at Farber, MO. Upon closing, he worked for NECC in Bowling Green and WEDCC in Vandalia for 7 years. He also owned Davis Wallpapering for 20 plus years where he sold and hung wallpaper. He was a member of the Car Cruisers Club of Vandalia and the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club. He loved to ride motorcycles and go fishing with his son Mike, friends and grandchildren. He loved taking trips on his motorcycle with his wife and camping with his children. Fred loved going to car shows and showing his 1986 Chevrolet El Camino. The last few years he had enjoyed refinishing and making furniture in his workshop. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia and served his country during Vietman in the United States Army. Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Perkins, Jonathan Kurz, Brian Kurz, Austin Davis, Michael Davis and Matthew Davis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Lynn, Floyd Sinclair, Gary Constable, Ron Morris, Joe Hassien, Paul Kirtlink, Roger Green, Dwayne Goss, Freddie Day and Allen Ebers. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia, First Christian Church in Vandalia or Fishing for Freedom.
