Carroll III age 88 of Bowling Green passed away Monday March 11, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday March 15, 2013 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green, with John Veach officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Louisiana with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #313 of St. Peters and Missouri Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.He was born February 5, 1925 in Louisiana, the son of John and Floy Horton Carroll Jr. He married Mildred Stephens and of this union eight children were born. She preceded him in death. He then married Joan Krampe on April 23, 1986 in Foley. She survives. Also surviving are three sons John B. Carroll IV and wife Susan of Louisiana, Dan Carroll and wife Denise of Clarksville, Jim Carroll and Susan Linton of Louisiana; five daughters Jana Hackmann and husband David of Grandville, Rhonda Hitt of St. Charles, Robin Davis and husband Scott of Winfield, Ginger Doughten and husband Rich of St. Peters, Reba Daven and husband Gene of Harvester; one step daughter Teresa Childs of O’Fallon; one stepson Gary Fraze and wife Renee of Rockport, IL; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and one sister Dorothy Eaton of Independence; and a special little girl Kaitlyn Dandridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Mildred Stephens, Rosemary Broadway, Virginia Monroe, Eleanor Calhoun and one brother-in-law John Eaton.Mr. Carroll served in the United States Navy during WWII from February 5, 1943 until October 29, 1947 and served in the Naval Reserves from 1947 to 1952. He moved to St. Charles and returned to Pike County in April 1986. He served as superintendent for a crew doing boring and tunneling for Affholder, Inc. in Chesterfield until retiring in October 1989. He then established and co-owned and operated J-E-M Concrete in Bowling Green. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 313 in St. Peters and a lifetime member of VFW Post 5553. He was also a member of the Oddball Gun Club in St. Peters. Mr. Carroll enjoyed fishing on the river and coonhunting.Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Carroll, Jim Blasingame, Jared Swantner, Adam Swantner, Rob Aslin, Jeff Schiele, Brent Bouquet. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mark Shade, Clinton Ray, Joe Wolken, Dustin Daven and Jay Hicks.Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
