Vera Marie Dixon

Vera Marie Orr Dixon went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2020, at the age of 103 years, 11 months, and 5 days. Funeral arrangements are with Bibb-Veach Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 with Pastor Paul Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Curryville Cemetery. Vera was the third of four daughters, born December 7, 1916 to Thomas Phillip and Sarah Elizabeth Branstetter Orr on the family farm near Curryville, Missouri. As a young girl, Vera and her sister Madeline helped their dad in the fields. Vera met and married Wyatt “Fred” Dixon, Jr. on September 11, 1937. To this union was born two children: Ronald (Wilma) Dixon and Joyce (Vernon) Gamm, all of Bowling Green; four grandchildren: Donna (Trent) Meyers of Louisiana, Kent (Penny) Dixon of Bowling Green, Vicky Gamm (Jim Patterson) of Eckley Colorado, and Wade (Kim) Gamm of Bowling Green; 8 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Meyers and Samantha (Lance) Fox of Louisiana, Josh (Abbie) Graver of Martinsburg, Justin Graver of Columbia, Bailey Carter of Bowling Green, Larissa, Brandon, and Cameron Gamm of Bowling Green; and three great-great-grandchildren: Tori Charlton, Brantley Fox and Jacob Graver. Vera was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a very devoted member of New Hartford Baptist Church, where she taught the adult women’s class for many years. She sung in the choir and worked with Vacation Bible School yearly. Vera enjoyed doing anything outdoors, especially flower gardening and mowing her lawn. She enjoyed listening to Elvis and watching Lawrence Welk. Vera loved trying new recipes, and made sure everyone who came to her house always had something to eat. There was always a bowl of candy for everyone to enjoy. She has resided at Lynn’s Heritage Home for seven and a half years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred; parents; and three sisters and husbands: Ruth (Don) Chamberlain, Madeline (Glenn) Stuart, and Grace (Ray) Pargeon. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Trent Meyers, Kent Dixon, Wade Gamm, Wyatt Meyers, Josh Graver, and Justin Graver. Memorials may be made to Pike County Home Health and Hospice or New Hartford Baptist Church.
