Bettie Jean Dixon

Bettie Jean Dixon, age 87, of Curryville passed away December 7, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Curryville with Rev. Doug Storts and Rev. Glen Swarthout officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Air Cemetery in Curryville. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. , December 10, 2015, at the Elm Grove Baptist Church. Bettie was born May 3, 1928, in Laddonia, the daughter of Edward Franklin and Hattie Grace Gramley Johnson. On February 23, 1949 in Laddonia she married Floyd H. Dixon. He preceded her in death in May 2002. Survivors include son Howard Lynn Dixon of Curryville; daughters Winifred Ann Shy and husband Dale Shy of Bowling Green, Gloria Jean Henning and husband Daniel Henning of Loami, IL; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and brother Joseph Johnson of Mexico and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Bill Johnson, sister Alice Potter; two great grandchildren Alleigh Turnbull and Jordyn Shy at infancy. Bettie grew up in Laddonia and upon marriage moved to Curryville . She worked at Ely Walker, Bobbie Brooks, and the Vandalia Garment Factory. She quit work to raise her three children and be a homemaker . After the children were gone she went back to work at Bobbie Brooks/ Vandalia Garment Factory. Bettie was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church, where she was involved in WMU, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Bettie also loved to embroidery but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Darrell Turnbull, Joseph Shy, J.C. Bufford, Michael Potter, Edward Potter, Jeremiah Steadman and David Steadman. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Turnbull, Jerry Northcutt, Malcom Coose, Ron Turnbull, Bob Hickerson, and Warren Dale Rosenstengle. Memorials may be made to the family of Bettie Dixon c/o Bibb-Veach Funeral Home.
