Janece Hickman Peabody, age 94, of Bowling Green passed away June 19, 2016 at the Country View Nursing Home in Bowling Green. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. John Birkhead officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Janece was born April 27, 1922 to Jeff and Maggie (Wilhoit) Hickman at Ashley. When 6 years old the family moved to the New Hartford community where she attended elementary school and then graduated with the Class of 1940 from Bowling Green High School. She united with the New Hartford Baptist Church when she was 16 years old. After her marriage she moved her membership to the Concord Presbyterian Church. When Concord had to close their doors she moved her membership to the Immanuel Baptist Church in Bowling Green. Janece taught Junior Classes in Sunday School at all three churches. She was united in marriage to Vernon Copenhaver on June 17, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1985. They were blessed with three children, Nellie Jean (Willard) Wamsley of Clarksville, George (Linda) Copenhaver of Troy and Beulah Copenhaver of the home. She had seven grandchildren Mallorie (Ken) Teubner, Vallorie (Doug) Powell, Allan (Pamela) Wamsley, Collin (Regina) Wamsley, Christy (David) Smith, Stacey (Deb) Copenhaver, Tyler Copenhaver. Great- grandchildren are Brian (Christie) Rottman, Justin Rottman, Jenny (Brent) Potter, Nick, Nathan, Elizabeth, Matthew, Daniel, James, Clara, and Celina Wamsley, Ashley Copenhaver, Kyle Smith and Kaidan Rogue Copenhaver. Great – Great Grandchildren are Kaleb Copenhaver and Beau Potter. On September 17, 1988 she was united in marriage to Robert Peabody. When she married Robert she gained a daughter Loretta Sloan and a son Kenneth (Lillian) Peabody, grandchildren Jennifer (Corey) Bell, Lori (Tony) Windmiller, Matthew Peabody and Jeff (Ana) Peabody, great -grandchildren Corey Bell, Jr., Kacie and Austin Orf, Cassius and Coleman Peabody. Preceding Janice in death was her husband Vernon, parents, sister Bettie Nell Hickman Peabody, a great -granddaughter Annabell Wamsley and a host of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Janece was known for sending greeting cards and many times a crocheted bookmark was enclosed. She looked forward to spring and getting new baby chicks. She sold eggs in town and made many new friends doing this. She enjoyed having the grandchildren spend the summer on the farm. They enjoyed fishing in the pond, watching their Grandpa milk the cows, but their highlight was helping gather the eggs. In later years she enjoyed crocheting and crafts. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Allan Wamsley, Collin Wamsley, Ken Teubner, Doug Powell, Tyler Copenhaver and David Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Copenhaver and Kenny Peabody. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church or the Concord Cemetery.
