Lucy Willene Burris, 89, of Bowling Green passed away Monday, November 9, 2020 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis. Funeral services for Lucy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. John Birkhead officiating. Burial will be in the Bowling Green City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family requests masks be worn for the visitation and the services. Lucy was born on July 10, 1931 in Louisiana, Missouri to Ollie and Adah Lois Lain Smith. She was united in marriage to Edward T. Burris on June 16, 1950 in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death. Lucy resided in Louisiana, Missouri until 1950 when she relocated to Bowling Green. She was employed at the Elder Garment Factory in Bowling Green and also worked as a babysitter. While in Arizona, she worked at Love’s Truck Stop and volunteered at the QIA Association. In the 1970s she also ran an upholstery service out of her home. Lucy enjoyed quilting and traveling to Alberta, Canada and out west, including Quartzsite in southwest Arizona. She also enjoyed baking cakes and pies, and her sons were known to fight over her cinnamon rolls. Lucy is survived by sons: Danny Burris of Bowling Green, Terry (Lisa) Burris of Bowling Green, and Michael Burris (Sandy Duffield) of Bolivar; grandchildren: Jennifer (James) Chandler, Aaron Burris (Amy Elliott), Kyle (Erin) Burris, Kristoffer (Deanna) Burris, Karah (Josh) Waddle, and Ashley (Jason) Gray; grandson-in-law, Dave Carroll; great-grandchildren: Haylee, Hallie, Haiden, and Walker Chandler, Ava Elliott, Whitley, Kortney, and Allie Carroll, Brodee and Brooklyn Burris, Andrew, Ava, and Adam Burris, Cole and Kendrick Waddle, and Tristan, Sawyer, and Hudson Gray; sisters Laura M. Scherder and Shirley J. Luebrecht; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Edward W. Burris; granddaughter, Kelly Carroll; brother, Pete Smith (Ermadell); nephew, Robert G. Schroeder; and brothers-in-law, Bob (Bessie) Schroeder, Paul Luebrecht, and Cyril Scherder. Pallbearers will be Aaron Burris, Kyle Burris, Kris Burris, Mark Luebrecht, James Chandler, and David Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Scherder, Jason Gray, Charlie Smith, and Josh Waddle. Memorials may be made to Immanual Baptist Church.
