Muriel Marie Colbert Grote, age 84 of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at St. Clement Catholic Church with Rev. Jason T. Doke, S.T.L. officiating. Burial will be in the St. Clement Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Muriel was born on June 23, 1934 to Kenneth and Elza Ellen Royster Colbert in Silex, MO. She married Harry Robert Grote on October 29, 1962 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Millwood. He preceded her in death January 25, 2007. Muriel and Harry had four children; Sandy Grummel, Shelly Grote, Darren Grote and Stacie Smith, all of Bowling Green. Muriel was a loving grandmother to Tyler (Misty) Smith and Connor Grummel of Bowling Green; Austin Smith (Austin Shults) of Kansas City and Shelby Grummel (Hank Calvin) of St. Charles. She also loved spending time with her two great grandsons, Noah Tyler and Clay Colbert Smith. She was preceded in death by sisters Bernice McManus and Louise Mudd; infant brother Everett Colbert. Muriel is survived by her children; brothers Gene Colbert and Kenneth (Bev) Colbert; sister Lois (Dan) Schneidler. Muriel’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren who she enjoyed vacationing with every summer. She liked staying busy. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, St. Clement Ladies Sodality, St. Clement Catholic Church and the Library Board. Muriel enjoyed working in the garden, taking care of her flowers, sewing and quilting, and walking in the park. In her later years, Muriel worked in the cafeteria at Bowling Green High School and Bowling Green Elementary. She loved seeing all of the students each day and chatting with her coworkers. She would walk the school hallways for exercise during the winter months. Muriel touched the lives of many people in our community and she will be greatly missed. Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Smith, Austin Smith, Connor Grummel, Austin Shults, Don Mudd and Pat Higgins. Memorials may be made to the Bowling Green Library Board, St. Clement Cemetery or donors’ choice.
