Betty Jean Dempsey

On February 17, 2023, at StoryPoint, Troy, OH Betty Jean (Jarboe) Dempsey made her final journey of this life into heaven, at the age of 89. She was born May 12, 1933, in Marling, MO to William Alfred and Ruby Lee (King) Jarboe. Betty married the love of her life, Raymond Edward Dempsey, on October 27, 1951, in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in passing. Betty grew up in Pike County, MO, and graduated from Bowling Green HS. Upon graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper and bank teller at Community State Bank. Betty assisted Raymond in operating Dempsey TV and Appliance in Jacksonville, IL during the 1960’s. Eventually, Raymond took a job with Whirlpool Corp. and the family relocated to AL, OH, NY, TX, and IN. Upon retirement, Betty and Raymond traveled for many years in their RV, before settling in Sidney, OH. Betty served as President and VP of Welcome Wagon. She was also a Deacon, a member of the Christian Church, and the Ladies Circle Group. Betty was involved in OH Eastern Star, Pleiades Chapter #298, Sidney, OH. She enjoyed sewing for her family and was a meticulous seamstress. Betty was an outstanding cook and had frequent requests for her tasty dinners, angel food cake, and homemade slaw! Betty also loved spending time with all of her family! Survivors include daughters; Diane Dempsey of Sidney, OH, Dana (Eddie) Ranne of Flower Mound, TX, four granddaughters; Nina (Michael) Santarelli-Griffin, Columbus, OH, Tara (Josh) Hewitt, Sidney, OH, Haley Ranne, Chapel Hill, NC, Hadley Ranne, Fayetteville, AR, and five great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Pritchett of Bowling Green, MO, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Betty was preceded in passing by brothers, Robert Mayo and Donald Dean Jarboe, and sisters, Virginia B Gregory, and Catherine L Page. Service officiated by Rev. Cole Branstetter will be held at BibbVeach Funeral Home, 11:00 am February 25th. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, prior to the service. Burial, immediately following at Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown, MO. Pallbearers: Terry Jarboe, Mike Nelson, Greg Nelson, Buddy Bibb, Steve Pritchett, and Eddie Ranne. Betty will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
