Dorothy Mae Betts

Dorothy Mae (Hiles) Betts age 86 of Bowling Green passed away Monday February 21, 2011 at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Second Baptist Church in Bowling Green with Rev. Jerry Gamm officiating. Burial will be in the Bowling Green City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the Church. She was born September 19, 1924 in Bowling Green, the daughter of Walter Tinsley and Augusta Belle Sutton Hiles. On May 1, 1943 she was united in marriage to Richard Wilbert Betts who preceded her in death on June 24, 1990. Dorothy is survived by four children Richard Wayne Betts and wife Betty of Ballwin, Sandra Allen and her husband John O. Allen, Mike Betts and wife Debra and Mac Betts and wife Jerry all of Bowling Green; grandchildren Joe Betts of Texas, Brendan Betts of St. Louis, Charity Allen Harris of Lafayette, Louisiana, Raney Betts Dihle of Wentzville, Richard Allen, Troy Allen, Bobby Betts, Holly Betts and Shane Betts all of Bowling Green; 18 great grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Love of Bowling Green. She was also preceded in death by one sister Laura (Corrie) Wood who passed away January 1, 2011. Mrs. Betts attended Vine Hill Elementary School located a few miles from her home in rural Bowling Green. She graduated from Bowling Green High School with the class of 1942. She had been employed by Bobby Brooks Garment Factory in Bowling Green and Vandalia for a total of seventeen years. She found much pleasure in making many quilts for the family. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Second Baptist Church since 1940. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Allen, Troy Allen, Shane Betts, Bobby Betts, Brendan Betts and Joe Betts.
