Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11:00 am. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Lew Kimmel officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post #5553 and Missouri Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service. Joseph Sanderson was born January 19, 1918 in Bowling Green, the son of Raymond Phillips and Jesse Lee (Pollack) Sanderson. On October 13, 1941 he married Virginia Nell Tinsley in Herman. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters Rebecca A. Sanderson and life partner Carol Jauquet of Corvallis, OR, Kimberly R. Sampson and husband David Sampson of Kirksville, Lisa J. McCluer and husband Arthur McCluer of Dardenne Prairie; one son Christopher J. Sanderson of Corvallis, OR; six grandchildren Chad and(Mackenzie) Sampson, Angela and (Jason) St. Clair, Melody and (Joe) Magruder, Elizabeth and (Nathan) Jones, Rebecca and (Lyle) Whitworth and Andrew McCluer; ten great grandchildren Corbin Sampson, Kolton Sampson, Madelyn Sampson, Gage St. Clair, Avery St. Clair, Laney Magruder, Chloe Magruder, Benjamin Jones, Hayden Jones, Emma Whitworth. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild Darren Sampson; one sister Francis Baker; two brothers Phillips Sanderson, and Waller Sanderson. Mr. Sanderson owned and operated the Sanderson’s Dry Goods and Ready to Wear Store on the Bowling Green square for many years, a business that had been run by his family beforehand. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was an Elder at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for 35 years. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He served on the board for the State School for Mentally Challenged. Joe enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee with his buddies and most of all spending time with his family. Serving as Pallbearers will be Andrew McCluer, Chad Sampson, Nathan Jones, Jason St. Clair, Joe Magruder, Lyle Whitworth. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or The Pike County Sheltered Workshop.
