Kathleen "Katie" Mary Korte

Kathleen “Katie” Mary Korte, 72, of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church with Fr. Henry Ussher and Fr. Lou Dorn officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 15th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bibb-Veach funeral Homes and Crematory in Bowling Green. Katie was born September 12, 1951 in Trenton, New Jersey to Paul Francis and Kathleen (Knight) McManus. She was united in marriage to Vernon Edward Korte on August 7, 1977 at St. Clement Catholic Church. Vernon survives. Also surviving are sons, Chris Korte (Jeanna) of Pueblo, Colorado and Paul (Laura) Korte of Columbia, Missouri; grandchildren: Addison, Lilly, Jacob, MaKayla, Nora, and Amelia; along with a large extended family. Preceding Katie in death were her parents. As a child, Katie’s family relocated often to facilitate her father’s military career, and later with his employment at Universal Match. She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas in Florissant, Missouri in 1969. Katie was proud of her service to her Country, serving in both the Navy Reserves and the Army Reserves. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Hannibal LaGrange College, and later received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Quincy University. Katie spent her working career in various health occupations. She served as a dental assistant to Dr. Stephen Chismarich in Bowling Green. Upon earning her nursing degree, she worked for Hannibal Regional Hospital including caring for patients through the hospital’s home health service. After working for the hospital, she continued her nursing career through teaching Health Occupations at Pike-Lincoln Technical Center. She then worked briefly as a massage therapist before returning to school and working as a licensed professional counselor until her retirement. Katie was a member of St. Clement Parish. She led the St. Clement Clementinas, a teenage girls’ youth group, for many years. Her participation in Cursillo and TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) were very important and foremost in her life. She was proud of her time spent connecting with and helping others. Katie will be greatly missed by the many friends and acquaintances she made along the way. Pall bearers will be Stephen Korte, Michael Korte, Kurt Korte, Derek Korte, Mike Mullins, and Jon Silvas. Memorials may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
