Leora Marie Mudd

Leora Marie Mudd, 88, of Montgomery City, formerly of Olney, passed away December 8, 2019 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Silex. Burial will be at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Leora was born on September 16, 1931 St. Louis, Missouri to Roy and Opal Warren Spencer. On December 24, 1948 she married Lawrence Fayette Mudd, Jr. He preceded her in death. Leora grew up in West Plains and Birchtree, Missouri. She later moved to Olney and attended Silex Schools. She then lived on the family farm near Olney for most of her life, until moving to Montgomery City in 2010. Leora was a farmer’s wife and homemaker, working along side Jr. on the farm. She was a great cook, well-known for her macaroni and cheese and fruit pies. She was an accomplished seamstress, often making doll clothes and Halloween costumes for grandchildren. She was an excellent gardener, known for growing beautiful flowers, vegetables and fruits. She loved listening to rock music and putting together puzzles. In her younger days she enjoyed dancing with Jr. and friends at the local dance halls. She was devoted to her family and loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Sleepovers and weekends with Grandma were the best! She recently began riding a 4 wheeler with Brayson to look for deer. She loved being outdoors and enjoying the sun. She was a very giving person and was always helping others. Surviving Leora are 2 daughters; Judy Cordes of Hannibal and Cathy York (Philip) of Montgomery City. Also surviving are grandchildren John Mudd, Joel Mudd (Bobbie), Jenny Wilson, Jodi Maggi (Brent), Emilee Lakin (Joe), Allison Mudd, John Huber (Lisa), Nancy Huber, Jennifer Huber, and George Huber (Tonya); great-grandchildren Nina Mudd, Frankie Schneider, Mickey Mudd, Tori Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Kane Wilson, Brayson Pierson, Georgia Lakin, Elijah Cooper, Ella Cooper, Jaelyn Huber, Grant Huber, Nicole McCracken, Matthew Huber, Branden Doering, and Rose Privett; and great-great-grandchildren Caden Mudd and Lillian Schneider. Also sisters Eva Mangert and Joyce Niyati, brothers Jerry Upton and Mike Spencer, and sisters-in-law Betty Shaw and Linda Mudd, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sons; Ricky Mudd and Roger Mudd. Pallbearers will be grandsons Kane Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Matthew Huber, Branden Doering, Mickey Mudd, and Brayson Pierson. Memorials may be made to The Michal J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the Ninevah Park Association in Olney.
