Melvin Lavern Perkins

Melvin LaVern Perkins, 76, of Bowling Green, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at ANew Healthcare in Wellsville, Missouri. Funeral services for Melvin will be Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Middletown Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. with Paster Jim Craig officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Ashley, Missouri. Visitation hours will be Monday, November 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bowling Green. Melvin was born on January 13, 1947 in Louisiana, Missouri to Harvey Melvin and Margie Louise (Maiden) Perkins. He was united in marriage to Mary Sue Shaw on January 20, 1967. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2008. On June 25, 2011, Melvin married Nellie Ann Ingram. She survives. Also surviving are sons, LaVern Perkins (Kathy) of New Hartford and Matthew Perkins (Shelly) of Vandalia; daughter, Melanie Perkins of Bowling Green; grandchildren: Caleb Perkins, Ashley Howard-Jarrod, Abbagail Perkins, and Trinity Perkins; great-grandson, Xavier Leffall; brother, Marvin L. Perkins (Judy) of Bowling Green; sister, Sandra Everhart of Bowling Green; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife. Melvin grew up in Ashley and attended school in the Ashley School House until 8th grade. He was a 1965 graduate of Bowling Green High School. Following graduation, Melvin went to work for the Pike County Highway Department. He also spent time working at Louisiana Farm Supply. He later went to work at Harbison-Walker, where he worked for 39 years until taking his retirement in 2009. Melvin enjoyed life and making people smile. He enjoyed farming with his John Deere equipment. Melvin loved hayrides, picnics on a rainy day and having neighbors to talk with. He loved spending time with his family. Melvin enjoyed his team of horses and would pull the funeral home hearse in local parades. He also liked four-wheeling in Amish Country. In his free time, Melvin enjoyed going to McDonald’s for coffee and gossip, as well as church socials. He also liked to weld and create mechanical things. Melvin had a zest for life and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him. Pallbearers will be Gary Young, Cliff Fuerst, Scott Fuerst, John Perkins, Jarrod Howard, and Jarrett Hagemeier. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice.
